Well the answer is me.
The 2 Hour Circle & Beyond is now my full time job. I’d love to tell you that it’s because I’m making such a killing that I can now afford to employ myself but that just wouldn’t be true.
Did you ever just start something that you just couldn’t leave alone? Something that you just have to persist with, something that tells you that you’re onto something, but you’re just not sure how to make it work? Well that’s where I’m at. Am I a fool? Maybe, but my persistence is paying off and every success drives me to another. That isn’t to say that the project hasn’t been without it’s failures. There’s been plenty of those and I don’t doubt for a second that there’ll be plenty more. Is there a point to all this? Absolutely!
We have a growing audience and the harder I work the more it grows. That requires me to be available to do the work required to be successful. I have had a good many people who have been a part of this journey who have helped me along the way and I’m incredibly grateful to those people and even more so to those who are still part of this incredible project. I think when you start something like this you have to expect some collateral damage but you live and learn I guess. The trade off I guess is that this job affords me the opportunity to do good things for people and even create some great experiences for those who have been involved along the way.
There are people out there who see real value in this project and there are those who just don’t want to and that’s fine. The ones I tend to worry about are those who did and now don’t. Why that bothers me I’m not certain but if I had to guess it’s probably because I feel I haven’t yet got the recipe quite right I suppose. At the end of the day this is my race to run and run it I will. I don’t want fame or fortune and I’m not one of those guys who needs to be surrounded by stuff. I have more stuff than I know what to do with and most of it I can probably do without. What I want from life is to experience it.
I love food, not that you would ever have guessed, and I love history and quite often in my travels I do stumble on the odd mystery. Not just ghosts, but missing house plans, or unsolved murders. Sometimes even strange burial sites and strange traditions. Like burying cats under buildings for luck etc or a school principal who chose to be buried under the school building to keep kids away after dark. How do I present this to you in a digestible format? Well it’s harder than it looks.
What I really love is the community side of the project. The opportunity to showcase tiny towns and small business is the best part. Some of these places have so much more to offer than you could ever know. As for small business; it’s tough and if I can give an Aussie battler 15 minutes of fame via my platform then I’m happy to do it. I should also mention that it’s our sponsors that make that possible. They’re the real legends in all this. I just string it all together and try and make it look good. It’s far harder than it looks.
Am I up to the challenge? Bloody oath I am, but I definitely can’t beat you young folk with all your social media tricks so I’ve enlisted the help of a couple of young gurus along the way. It’s hours of travelling on my beloved Scooter (Harley Davidson) and you know how I hate that! It’s hours of video editing, planning, scheduling, writing and sometimes staring at the ceiling. It’s meetings and zoom calls and now I’m a door to door salesman. Yes, somebody has to get out there and chase the money lol. Unfortunately the project doesn’t run on thin air. I do however have a slight advantage now my kids have all grown up. So nowadays that offers a little financial freedom along with the freedom of not having to plan around a house full of kids. We are lucky in that respect I suppose.
Does the job have an effect on our social lives? Absolutely and not always for the best. If I’m out socialising then I’m not getting any work done, but I do get to meet some wonderful characters along the way and I have had the opportunity to make some wonderful friends.
What’s next for the project is very exciting but I can’t share that with you just yet. I will say however that I love my job and that’s a rare thing to attain these days, so I’m grateful for that. I’m also incredibly grateful to our followers who now help us to reach approximately 60,000 people a month and for our sponsors, without which, we would never be able to do what we do.
Hopefully that’s given you a little insight into the madness lol. Thanks for reading and thanks for your ongoing support.
