Recently we had the absolute pleasure of stopping at The Sourdough Crust Co restaurant (formerly Tomato Brothers) and got to meet the new owner George, who incidentally has the same hair cut as the previous owner, Jeff.
The restaurant itself has had a little bit of a makeover with its’ name change and the atmosphere is fresh and vibrant.
But, what you want to know is what we ordered and what it was like, so here we go:
Entrée
Garlic, Mozzarella & Parmesan Sourdough Fold $12.00
Wood-Fire Roasted Eggplant, Confit Garlic and EVOO with sourdough Flatbread $14.00
Mains
Chicken & Chorizo Pasta – Chicken, chorizo, penne, garlic, white wine, rocket, sundried tomato, capers, parmesan and EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) $24.00
Pumpkin Risotto – Pumpkin, arborio rice, parmesan, cream and parsley $22.00
Dessert
Limoncello Tart $15.00
Let’s start with the entrees. The sourdough fold is kind of like a calzone cut in bite size pieces. Lots of gooey mozzarella cheese and totally delicious (very moreish).
When I ordered the eggplant, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The eggplant was served chilled and the flatbread was warm and dippable, making the whole dish very easy to eat.
The result, an absolutely beautiful meal. I highly recommend that you don’t just cruise past this item on the menu and give it a go. I’ll certainly be ordering it again.
I should also comment that the food came out surprisingly quickly, so whilst we were chatting away and enjoying the entrees, the mains were being lovingly prepared in the kitchen.
The pumpkin risotto was absolutely stellar, beautifully rich and creamy and a good size serving. I had the Chicken & Chorizo Pasta.
Now, I’ve ordered pasta from restaurants before and let me say that it is very easy to tell when it’s been pre-prepared and chucked in a microwave.
What I was served definitely wasn’t that.
I would go so far as to say that this dish was composed one element at a time.
Every element played a starring role. The chicken and chorizo were gorgeous, as was the flavour from the tomatoes and capers.
Even though I felt that I had had my fill, I just couldn’t leave this dish alone. Sensational dish – my compliments to the chef, I will order this again.
I can only hope that my photographs have done these dishes the credit that they deserve.
If you’re not full by now (or even if you are – because they offer takeaway containers for your leftovers), you might want to tackle dessert.
After all of that cheese, cream and garlic, we thought it might be wise to have something with a little citrus in it, though we only ordered one dessert between the two of us.
Absolutely delicious!
What a great was to finish the meal. If you haven’t been in to try out this refreshed eatery, I suggest you stop sitting on your hands and grab a knife and fork people!
