Or how I learnt to stop worrying and love the eel!
We were looking for somewhere to take the kids for a quick and easy meal, without heading out for takeaway, which can be seriously expensive for four adults and, to be honest, is often a let-down. I don’t mind paying for something I don’t have to cook myself, but a little bit of care and consideration for what is served for the price is greatly appreciated. With our son being a big Ramen fan, which is something I don’t generally buy, we decided to take a short drive out to Jamboree Heights to try out the Ramen Ye.
Not a huge restaurant and BYO only, but neat and tidy and a very colourful atmosphere. Speaking of colourful – how great are the colours in the food? We decided to share our meals so that we could try out a few different things and this is what we ended up with:
Japanese style creamy crab croquettes $ 7.50
Takoyaki – Deep fried octopus ball $ 7.50
Una Don – Roasted Eel with sweet soy sauce $16.90
Tonkotsu – Original recipe ramen using long-simmered pork broth $15.90
Salmon & Tuna Sashimi $14.90
Chicken Karage Curry $16.99
First things first, I’m sure you want to know about the eel, right? I was expecting something gamey in flavour, and was surprised that it really was just a fish taste. Very nice, just not quite what I expected.
Everything that we had was cooked well, was fresh and tasty and was brought to the table with a smile. The verdict from the Ramen “expert”? “Really good, but I do know of a little hole in the wall place that I prefer”. Hmmmm, looks like we will be venturing out again soon!
All in all, the Ramen Ye was a great place to go for a meal, with a variety of dishes for all ages and I would certainly recommend that those local to the Jindalee/Mount Omaney area give it a try. Would I make a special trip back for a second visit? Probably not – there wasn’t anything that truly stood out to me that I absolutely had to have again, even though I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Do you have a favourite place you think we should try? Let us know!
