mihi food review

Dear Chef Green,

Thank you for your invitation to revisit the restaurant where you have now taken a position as head chef. Please find details of my experience below.

We were greeted by Nikita as per your recommendation and I must say she was both knowledgeable and obliging and as luck would have it we were seated at the very same table where we were seated on our last visit.

Let’s begin shall we starting with the appetisers. We ordered …

Cauliflower Fritters

Crisp corn tortilla, cilantro chilli, sour cream $13

Lamb Filo

Lamb shoulder confit in pastilla cigar, tzatziki sauce, torshi pickles $14

Honestly I found it very difficult to get excited about these two dishes. Great concept but definitely missed the mark for me. Perhaps the idea needs a little more thought and conversation among your colleagues. The lamb was beautiful but for me the idea of presenting it in a fill pastry like a spring roll is lost on me. To your credit it was a lot better than the idea of cheeseburger flavoured spring roll which is what we had last time.

You did however knock the ball out of the park with the mains!! We ordered …

Homemade Gnocchi

Spinach, sundried tomato, pine nuts, parmesan shavings, creamy pesto sauce $24

Seafood Linguini

Fresh calamari, prawns, fish, mussels, creamy alla busara sauce $31

I had the Linguini and it was absolutely beautiful. My concern with dishes like this is the risk of having overcooked seafood and nobody wants that. It was a very generous serve packed full of flavour. It was rich creamy and bloody delicious! I was unable to finish it but I wasn’t letting it go before I had searched through for all the tasty morsels of seafood. Beautiful food mate !! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sharon had the gnocchi which I was allowed to taste. It was beautiful and the flavours just danced around on my tongue. The sun dried tomato added enough of a zing to perfectly balance out the cream. Sharon tells me she could have eaten that all day.

Let’s talk about dessert. We ordered …

Sticky Date Pudding

Served warm with rum spiked caramel sauce, vanilla ice cream, and Chantilly cream $12

Pavlova

Served with whipped cream, strawberry sauce, ice cream and fresh seasonal fruit $12

The last time I sat at this table and ordered this dessert I was presented something dry and disappointing with the saddest strawberries I’d ever seen, but not this time!! The sticky date pudding was moist, it was soft and a real pleasure to eat . As for the pavlova. I didn’t get a look in. For my dessert!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Well done! What a great way to finish a meal.
