hog's breath ipswich

Yes, Hog’s Breath Ipswich is back ladies and gentlemen. It’s been a while and I have been watching the old site and wondering what new business would be taking over the space. Well, it ended up being a newly refurbished version of the old favourite. We thought we’d check it out and see what’s new.

A lovely fresh look, new floorboards and seating, but still the same feel and, of course, still the massive menus. After much consideration we decided to have:

Finger Food Combo – Salt & pepper calamari, loaded potato skins, prawn twisters and panko-crumber tenders, with Dijonnaise & sweet chilli sauce $29.95

Southern Fried Chicken Burger (we had a wrap instead) – Fried chicken, lettuce, dill pickle and mayonnaise $18.45

Prime Rib Avocado & Bearnaise – Traditional Cut, 18 hour, topped with avocado and creamy béarnaise sauce $44.45

Boss Ho Rocky Road Sundae – Vanilla and strawberry ice cream served on a warm chocolate mud cake, smothered in chocolate fudge sauce, topped with marshmallows, strawberry and chocolate toppings, whipped cream, toasted coconut and chocolate wafers. $11.95

Panna Cotta – Creamy vanilla bean panna cotta served with raspberry puree and butternut biscuit crumb $ 9.95

Since dessert sounded so enticing, we decided that we would share the entrée between us. It was good, but I must say, nothing particularly stood out and I feel the value for money just wasn’t there on this one.

I had the prime rib of course – (you can’t go to a steak house without having the steak after all). I liked the addition of the avocado and béarnaise sauce as something slightly different and the steak was cooked perfectly.

What I was quite impressed about though, was that instead of just curly fries and salad as a side, I was offered a Caesar salad instead. Just stepping it up a little. Sharon ordered the chicken burger (as a wrap) and she had straight fries with her meal. Did some poor bugger out in the kitchen have to go and iron out a handful of those curly fries, just for her?
