daddy daughter day at toogoolawah

Roughly an hour and 15 minutes from Ipswich is a small town that you have probably driven past many times, but never stopped in. Whilst we have visited Toogoolawah before, the reason for being there this time was a research mission. Yes, that’s right boys and girls, sometimes it doesn’t matter how many words you read or how many YouTube videos you watch, you actually have to go and see for yourself.

We started our day with a drive around town so that I could show my daughter the interesting and, shall I say eclectic, range of architecture that is to be seen in this town (we’ll talk about this in upcoming adventures). I’m sure that each and every one of the old shops in Toogoolawah has a story to tell too, but without the luxury of extra time today we decided to save this for later. We were, however, tempted to stop and check out the wonderful little shop called Two Galahs Gallery and from there decided to grab a quick bite to eat at Hav’A’chat Café.

Then it was time to get on with the job. The real reason that we were in town was because we were in pursuit of a bushranger, known as the Wild Scotchman, who was said to have lived in the area in the 1800’s and to have worked on nearby properties.

Unfortunately the property where he lived is currently privately owned and you cannot see the homestead from the road, so we will need to arrange a time to visit if that is possible. I have also heard rumours that said bushranger was seen around the Esk area and since Toogoolawah is only 17km up the road from there, I’d say that would be quite plausible and I look forward to sharing more on this in our dedicated upcoming videos.

I must say I was amazed once again at what a small world it can be. We ran into people that we knew in this town, I was seen by someone who knew me in this town and when I posted a photo of my lunch, I received a comment from a lovely young lady who actually went to school in this neat little town. Seriously, I was only there for a couple of hours!

There’s lots to explore here and I will definitely keep you posted (no pun intended) on the food, history and mysteries that we uncover. So please, if you haven’t already, like the page and invite your friends to like the page because that helps us to promote the small businesses, the tiny towns and the food & beverage industry out there in what we like to call, the 2 hour circle.
