csi plant based menu

Hey guys, it’s Sharon giving Dalase some time off. As a follow up to last week, we took a couple of friends with us to CSI – Club Services Ipswich to throw ourselves into the experience of trying the Plant Based menu that has been introduced there. Our friends have a very well researched and respectful approach to an animal free diet, so we felt they would be ideal candidates to give this menu a go. I must give full credit to CSI for tempting Dalase to try a meal without meat (I know right – hard to believe, but it did actually happen).


Between the four of us we tried all but one of the new meals on the menu - that being the plant based chicken schnitzel. My personal favourite was the burger, what there was left of it after Dalase took his one bite (I’m pretty sure it was his favourite too). The addition of the gherkins and the chipotle mayonnaise was the key and I think that this burger would definitely be a winner for the vegetarian palate.

Dalase had the Nicoise Salad and the Pumpkin & Sweet Potato Frittata and the HoiSin Chicken Stir Fry was sampled by one of our friends. I finished my meal with a selection from the dessert fridge (okay, so maybe it was two selections, but remember, Dalase did have that bite of my burger) and the evening was relaxed and thoroughly enjoyable.

So, what did Dalase think of his food? He thoroughly enjoyed the Frittata and said that the addition of the boiled egg and potatoes to the Nicoise salad made it both filling and satisfying and the pipped olives topped it off and really added to the flavour adventure. He will definitely order it again, especially coming into summer when you want something light but still filling.


We had an interesting conversation around what is very strictly vegan as opposed to vegetarian and I have to admit my ignorance may have showed. Lots of discussion to be had on this point and it seems it really is “your” personal choice. Happily the HoiSin Stir Fry ticked all of the boxes on the night and was polished off post haste

Here is the full list of what we ordered:


HoiSin Chicken Stir Fry – Plant based chicken tossed with broccoli, carrot, capsicum, baby corn, sugar snap peas, hokkien noodles, tossed in Hoi Sin sauce.


Vegan Delight Burger – Vegan patty, lettuce, tomato, Spanish onion, vegan cheddar cheese, gherkin, topped with chipotle mayonnaise.


Pumpkin & Sweet Potato Frittata – Oven roasted sweet potato, pumpkin with Spanish onion, spinach, finished with crumbed fetta.


Nicoise Salad – Chsat potato, green beans, cherry tomatoes, black olives, cos lettuce, and boiled egg drizzled in lemon myrtle & ginger dressing.


CSI continues to impress with its’ willingness to try out new ideas. They are dedicated to keeping the menu fresh and I must admit, the service and friendliness of the staff, who take the time to have a joke and a laugh with you, is second to none. Give them a try for your next night out.
