cherry cafe tree

A better breakfast I have not had for a very long time. Last week we were having breakfast in the country town of Warwick and I must say, it never ceases to amaze me the quality of food available within 2 hour of Ipswich. Seriously, it is mind blowing stuff.

We were advised by the locals shortly after we arrived in town, that we should try the little corner coffee shop called the Cheery Tree Café. They told us that they’re incredibly efficient and the food is great. As it happened, efficiency was definitely what I was after, as we were already running behind schedule.

After perusing the menu for a short while, I decided on the Cherry Tree Stack. Something on the menu named after the restaurant has gotta be good right? The coffee arrived quickly and it was a damn good cuppa, so that made me happy. I was sipping my coffee while watching plate after plate of food head out to hungry patrons, when I spotted something that looked simply awesome and, as luck would have it, it was my breakfast!

Sitting in front of me was a meal that was as easy on the eye as it was tasty. This was a simple combination of flavours that just worked! From the pine nuts to the spring onion, avocado, lemon, feta, bacon, fresh cherry tomatoes, halloumi and a couple of runny poached eggs, this meal was perfect. I was in heaven. The little zingy pops of flavour that you got with each mouthful made this breakfast sprightly and incredibly enjoyable and there was the surprise of super crispy shavings of sweet potato just to top it all off. The perfect start to my day.

Sharon decided to give the French Toast (AKA Parmesan & Cracked Pepper French Toast) a try, and it was certainly nothing so basic as the French toast we make at home. There was an extra thick cut slice of white bread to start off the colourful tower of food that came to the table. Toast, fried in egg, with shaved parmesan cheese, cracked pepper and shallots served topped with a rasher of bacon, haloumi, fried onions, cherry tomatoes and with a poached egg. This feast looked an absolute treat and had Sharon chasing bits of food around the plate right to the very end. I don’t think she was willing to leave anything behind.

All in all, a fantastic meal at the cost of $47.50, including the 2 coffees – (would you believe I got a cappuccino in a mug for only $4.50?) It really is good to get out and about in the 2 Hour Circle and find these hidden gems. Why don’t you get out there too and let us know where you end up!
