bakehouse steakhouse

Bakehouse Steakhouse Y’all got that friend who states that, “if you pull that off, I’ll buy you a steak dinner.” If he’s true to his word, you could end up right here at the Bakehouse Steakhouse in Ipswich, which is not only in a historic location but is another of the gems representing the Ipswich food scene. Now, before we get started on what we actually ordered, I want to make a brief mention of what I might have ordered, had I planned ahead - A 850gm Dry Aged OP Rib on the Bone! This is the caliber of steak restaurant that we are talking about and, I might just add, I won’t be taking this one on by myself, I will be bringing backup. Interesting to note that this venue doesn’t serve entrees. The menu contains a small but sensible range of steak options which are served with endless fries and a green leaf salad. You can then choose from a selection of sides to have with your meal. Having three sides comes at a discounted price, but with their generous sizing I would suggest that, for a couple, one or two would be sufficient. We ordered three because the options were so interesting but the helpful waitress discouraged us from ordering the fourth one that we wanted to try, suggesting that, based on portion sizes, it would be too much. On that note, the table service was prompt and friendly and our waitress clearly had a good knowledge of the bar and of the menu. What we had was: Rib Fillet Steak – 300 gram, Angus marble score 2+ Truffle Mash – Parmesan mash, truffle Roasted Carrots – Orange roasted, dukkah, fetta, olive oil Wedge Salad – Iceberg wedge, blue cheese, candied bacon, cherry tomato, blue cheese dressing Bakehouse Salad – Roasted cauliflower salad, quinoa, cranberry, spinach, almonds, haloumi, avocado, green goddess dressing with chicken Banoffee Pie – Banana Custard, saled caramel, Bakehouse fudge. I ordered my steak rare to medium and it was perfectly cooked and everything on the plate was exactly as I expected. I must say that the blue cheese salad side was bloody awesome. I was very tempted to settle in with a glass of wine but, with limited time I decided to stick with my lovely cold glass of Furphy and just accept my limitations on this particular occasion, having partaken in quite a lot of the Truffle Mash which far exceeded my expectations. I have ordered truffle mash before at other venues and sometimes the only truffle you can notice is that on the menu and none on the tastebuds. This certainly wasn’t like that. Sharon decided to try forego the steak and try the Bakehouse salad which she had with the roasted carrot side. Though she felt that salad needed just a little more of the delicious dressing, she enjoyed every morsel, right down to the last slivered almond and cranberry that she chased around the plate. The carrots were perfect and the addition of the dukkah was a great choice. As per usual, we couldn’t turn down dessert, though we should have, and we both enjoyed the chewy fudge banoffee pie (fortunately not a huge serve). Total cost of dinner for two with drinks was $158.00. So, all in all, a very enjoyable evening in a nice, relaxed environment. At no time did we feel that we were being rushed off our table and, yes, I will be rounding up a friend and heading back to try the Dry Aged Rib!
